Emerald Palms
Through the auspices of Progressive Earth Development, my team upgraded and reopened this 40-room property with the intent to liquidate on behalf of the estate owner. To ensure success, we implemented a solid staff training program, an intense marketing effort and created a renewed outlook. Managing this concurrently with Tiamo brought our total contingent up to almost 70 persons − it was an exciting time to say the least.
More importantly, acquiring the Emerald Palms property allowed for economies of scale and scope. By expanding our scale of operation, we were able to reduce long run average costs through bulk buying and cooperative marketing efforts. Furthermore, through bundling and branding efforts, we were able to expand our scope and reach more people with each dollar spent. Emerald Palms was no longer just another hotel in Andros, it became "Emerald Palms: A Tiamo Experience." This synergy gave potential guests a more desirable vacation offering than a single hotel would.
Taking advantage of economies of scale and scope is critical when it comes to operating a hotel on a remote island destination.
